The time had finally arrived and we were packed and ready to go. It seemed like the day would never come lol we loaded up the car got everything in and in a comfy spot at this point it was about 830pm and we decided what the hell we're going to leave now so we got Bubba and Star in the car and hit the road. Shauna drove first and of coarse I couldn't fall asleep I was far to excited, so we talked and cracked jokes. Ethan knew we were going to drive thru Las Vegas so he made sure to stay awake so he could see the lights. Our first stop was Las Vegas to fill up on gas and for a quick potty break. After that Shauna continued to drive and we went thru Mesquite which was closer to Vegas than I remembered. Next up was the Arizona/Nevada border and into the Virgin River Gorge we went. It was of coarse dark but the moon was full so it was rather bright outside. I was able to see the gorge thru the moonlight and it was an amazing view. Shauna of coarse was alittle scared anything with a cliff or bridge and her anxiety kicks in a bit. We made it thru and before we knew it we hit the Arizona/Utah border. We went straight thru St. George and into Cedar City; it was now my turn to drive Shauna had put in about 6 hrs of driving and said she could do more but I figured it was about my time. We went potty and got alittle more gas and on we went. Now so far the entire trip has been on I-15 which makes the trip so much easier when you know the freeway already, any who on to the next freeway I-70 by this time we were going higher and higher in elevation and the temperature was dropping drastically compared to what we had already driven thru.
Side note story:
OK so this is completely separate from the actual road trip but I just had to include it. About 2 1/2 hrs into my part of the drive we were in the Mountains of Utah it was about 23 degrees outside and I was literally the only one on the road therefore I had my bright lights on so I could see the upcoming curves better, so there I was driving a long and on the right hand side of the road coming down the side of the mountain very swiftly and gracefully I saw this giant black figure at first I thought it was an animal and soon realized it was WAY to big to be an animal, after about 10 quick steps down the mountainside it was gone. I swear IT WAS A SASQUATCH!!!! I even had to tell Shauna when she woke up what I saw. There was no way I was hallucinating and I wasn't tired I had not been driving that long, so on that note I am a FIRM BELIEVER of the SQUATCH!!!
Alrighty now back to the road, next stop was Richfield, UT because I knew that between Richfield and Green River there was about 110 miles of area that had no service what so ever. Richfield was a ghost town and I guess at 4am it should be. I filled the tank up and off we went. The temperature at one point dropped as low as 17 degrees and it was COLD!!! We got to see the sunrise about 630am and had to make a pit stop at a rest area for a potty break. Ethan now is awake and slept from about 11pm to 7am which wasn't bad considering he was in the car sleeping. We did alittle video recording and took some pictures now that the sun had come up and of coarse wouldn't you know it once the sun was up we were out of the mountains and now driving thru the boring plains of Utah. Utah/Colorado border came up and we knew we were getting closer past our half way point woohooo. Breakfast included Mcdonalds in Grand Junction, CO and the people here were already nicer than California folks. lol At this point we switched places again and I had driven for about 4 1/2 hrs almost 5hrs.
Now that Ethan was awake of coarse 30 mins after eating he had to go potty again even thou we already went, so we stopped by a gas station that was next to the Colorado River took in the fresh air and stretched our legs alittle, Shauna was super tired and I tried to get her to trade me spots but she took a 5 minute power nap while Ethan and I explored and she was good to go. The Next part of the drive had to have been the most beautiful part of the entire 15 hr adventure. We came across Vail, CO which was covered in white fluffy powdery snow and was awesome. Stopping in a little ski town called Frisco for a quick potty break again and I have to say I loved that town the building were so cute and all the towns people were so nice and polite, It was a stunning little area. We went thru some more snow areas and finally came thru the mountains into the GREATER DENVER AREA!! We were finally here, we saw the city and were sooooo happy. The trip was not horrible at all however not getting much sleep before taking the trip did make it a very tiring adventure. Being closer to our hotel gave us much relief and we had done it, WE WENT ON OUR FIRST FAMILY ROAD TRIP!!!
