It's April 15th, 2013 and our lives are about to change for the better. I woke up at 5am so that I could shower and finish some last minute preparation before we meet our little princess. We were to be at the hospital by 7am so we left at 630am, Ethan was already at Grandma Lorrie & Papa's house because he spent the night over there, on our way to the hospital we kept making jokes about turning around and driving far away and that she can stay in my belly forever lol Upon arriving at the hospital we went to Labor & Delivery and checked in, they had me sign several papers and we waited to be called back. Since I was a planned c-section we were set up in the triage area where they had me give them blood, change my clothes, and get an IV(which took 3 different times ughh) they told us that they were running alittle behind so we wouldn't go in til about 10am instead of 9am. Th anesthesiologist came in and explained to me what medicine she was going to give me and I explained I wanted to be awake and alert thru it all, she was very supportive of that decision and said she wouldn't give me anything extra unless I request it. Angela came to visit and stayed with us the whole time, she even stayed at the hospital the whole time I was in surgery and recovery so she could meet McKenzie as soon as it was physically possible. :) IT WAS TIME!!! They walked me back to the OR, introduced me to the other nurses and staff that would be helping in my procedure and started to prep me for the spinal. They wrapped me up, put in the spinal and laid me down. It took a while for the spinal to travel and there was a long period of time that I could still feel them hooking me up and prepping my belly. The iodine was cold and I started to tingle. I began to get worried that they were going to forget about Shauna and she would miss it and just as these feelings arose in walked my wonderful wife, kissing me on the forehead and asking how I am doing. After a few minutes, lots of tugging & pulling, McKenzie was making her grand appearance!! She came out screaming, I saw them lift her over the curtain and take her to the warmer bed, Shauna then left my side and went over to see her where she pee'd on the nurses 2 different times lol Shauna kept saying how beautiful she was and smiling from ear to ear. Seeing the overwhelming joy on her face is a picture in my memory I will never forget. I was an emotional wreck and crying like a big baby trying to wipe my tears thru all the cords I had around me. Shauna was able to get her first cry on video and even thou it was only 6 secs it was the sweetest 6 seconds of sound ever. They wrapped her up all warm and brought her to me, she was absolutely beautiful and I loved her ever so much already. I was able to kiss her little face and touch her and then they were off to the recovery room while they finished sewing me back up. I could hear her crying the whole time, she had a big ol' set of lungs on her! After about 10 minutes I went into the recovery room with them where they took assessments of her and myself. She was able to nurse within 30 minutes of being born and I had feeling in my legs about 30-45 minutes after I got to the recovery room, the nurses said that it was very quick! The rest of the day was amazing and everyone came to meet her-Auntie Angela, Grandma Lorre, Papa, Big Brother, Cousin, and Uncle Mike. They all adored her and were in love ♥. We remained in the hospital for 3 nights, 4 days. She did a great job nursing and latching on and even though she lost quite a bit of weigh(which is normal) her jaundice levels were excellent and she was just perfect in every way possible! I healed rather well of coarse in lots of pain but was up walking around and mobile fairly quickly. :)
